Regulation
Spain eases renewable rules for data centers
The Spanish government has revised its renewable energy requirements for data centers, increasing the threshold for application from 1 MW to 10 MW, and reducing the duration of renewable contracts from ten to six years. However, the goal of having 80% of energy consumption from renewable sources remains, with a five-year transition period. This change is part of a new draft royal decree, according to La Razon. The automatic disconnection of data centers in case of network failure is a notable addition to the regulation.
Impact Data center operators must adapt to new thresholds and contract terms, affecting their energy sourcing strategies.
