Regulation
New SAC rules mandate human interaction
New rules for consumer service centers (SACs) came into effect across Brazil on November 2, mandating human interaction from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays, according to O Globo. The rules apply to regulated sectors such as telecommunications, energy, aviation, and banking. Companies must provide at least one digital channel operating 24 hours. The changes aim to improve customer service and are outlined in Decree No. 13.135/2026.
Impact Telecom, energy, and banking firms must adjust operations to comply with new SAC requirements.
Internal tension
Gang violence escalates in Volta Redonda
A violent conflict between the Comando Vermelho (CV) and Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) gangs has intensified in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, causing panic among residents. According to O Globo, the dispute over control of illegal activities, worth approximately R$ 2 million monthly, has led to four deaths and several vehicles being set on fire. The local government has called on the military police to restore order in the area.
Impact Public-sector operations in Volta Redonda face disruptions due to escalating gang violence.
Markets
Oil prices drop nearly 8% amid US-Iran talks
Oil prices fell nearly 8% on November 2, following comments by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that the Supreme Leader had granted powers for negotiations with the US, according to Folha de S.Paulo. The potential for a deal raised hopes for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, easing market tensions and impacting global oil prices.
Impact Energy importers see reduced costs as oil prices drop due to potential US-Iran agreement.
